Frequently asked questions

Everything families ask us most, about reserving a kitten, the breed, daily care, and our training & boarding services. Don't see your question? Just ask us.

01 · Kittens & Reserving
How do I reserve a kitten?

Reach out to start a conversation, we'll do a meet-and-greet interview to make sure it's a great fit, then a deposit holds your spot and is applied toward the purchase price. Deposits are non-refundable, but if your kitten ever becomes unavailable in our care, it transfers to another SavCats kitten. Your kitten comes home after 12 weeks of training and socialization with us, or as early as 11 weeks if you let us know in advance, so we can schedule their vaccinations for the earlier date.

What comes home with my kitten?

A luxury airline-approved carrier, a blanket carrying mom's scent, litter training, harness & leash foundations, 2 FVRCP vaccinations, 3 rounds of deworming, and our lifetime support.

How much does a SavCats kitten cost?

Our F2 Savannahs range from $12,000–$15,000 depending on their spot pattern, color, and markings. When you place a deposit, you get first pick of the litter at the guaranteed starting price of $12,000, locking in the best kitten and the best price before the litter is even born. A deposit holds your spot and goes toward the final price. Spay/neuter is arranged by you, see our policies below.

What do I get by placing a deposit early?

Early depositors get two major perks: first choice of the litter so you can pick your kitten before anyone else, and the guaranteed starting price of $12,000, regardless of where that kitten would otherwise fall in the $12k–$15k range. The earlier your deposit, the earlier your pick order.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash (in person at pickup), Zelle, Venmo, Cash App, crypto, or bank wire. Your kitten heads home once funds have fully cleared.

Do you deliver, or is it pickup only?

Both. Pick up locally in the Santa Clarita / Los Angeles area, or we arrange nationwide delivery with a trusted flight nanny who hand-delivers your kitten to your nearest major airport ($500 nanny fee, $150 in-cabin airline fee, plus the flight, paid before travel).

Do kittens come with TICA papers?

Yes, we're a TICA Registered Cattery (#113140). Registration papers are provided after verifiable proof of spay/neuter, within 6 months.

How often do you have litters?

Only once or twice a year, on purpose, so every kitten gets real one-on-one time. Reserve early; spots go fast.

Can you train my kitten around my lifestyle?

Yes, tell us about your household, family, and other pets, and we tailor each kitten's training to match. Extended training past 12 weeks is available too, see our Services.

02 · The Breed
Are Savannahs good with kids and dogs?

Yes, our kittens grow up around new people, kids, and our family dog, so they arrive calm and confident. With the right foundation, a Savannah fits almost any home.

How big do they get?

Savannahs are tall, lean athletes, big ones can reach 18-20 lbs full grown, with long legs and that unmistakable wild look.

Do they shed?

Far less than most cats. A quick once-over with a grooming brush when they shed their winter coat is all they need, our favorites are in the Care Guide.

Are Savannahs legal where I live?

Laws vary by state and city. Check your local regulations before reserving, and we're happy to help you figure it out.

03 · Care & Health
What should I feed my Savannah?

A raw diet, it's what we feed all our cats. The Care Guide walks through every option, plus exclusive discounts on the brands we trust.

What vaccines do they need?

Only a killed/inactivated FVRCP, and never the FIV/FeLV or FIP (coronavirus) vaccines, they void the health guarantee. Your kitten already has 2 FVRCP rounds and 3 dewormings when they come home.

When should I spay/neuter and microchip?

We recommend around 12-14 weeks, timed with the final vaccine visit, and no later than 7 months. Microchip at the same time, it's placed painlessly under anesthesia.

Should I get pet insurance?

We recommend it, around $20/month per cat, and enroll early, before any pre-existing conditions.

04 · Training & Boarding
Do you only work with SavCats kittens?

Our own families come first, but we welcome all cats when we have space. Reach out and we'll let you know availability.

Can you keep my cat on a raw diet while boarding?

Absolutely, raw is what we feed our own cats. Send their food and portions and we'll keep the routine exactly the same.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you can, at least a couple of weeks, and further ahead for holidays when spots fill fast.

Is training in-person or virtual?

Both. In-home private sessions across the LA area, plus live virtual coaching for follow-ups or out-of-area families. See rates →

05 · Health Guarantee & Policies
What health guarantee do you offer?

Every kitten is examined by a licensed vet before going home, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and comes with full vaccination and deworming records. You get a 7-day general health warranty (we recommend a vet exam on day 5-7) and a 12-month warranty against genetic or congenital defects, with a replacement kitten as the remedy. For minor treatable illness during the warranty period, we reimburse up to $200 in approved medication costs. Full details are in the purchase agreement.

How do I keep the health guarantee valid?

Three simple things: quarantine your kitten from other animals for the first 10 days, never give the FIP (coronavirus) or FIV/FeLV vaccines, and spay/neuter by 7 months (we recommend around 12-14 weeks with the final vaccine visit).

What are your placement policies?

Indoor-only living (a secure catio counts), no declawing ever, and no transfers to brokers, pet stores, or research facilities. Rehoming requires our written consent, and we'd rather you come to us first.

What if I can no longer keep my cat?

We take every SavCat back, for life, at no cost to you, and we cover return shipping. A SavCats kitten never goes to a shelter. That's our promise for the whole 15-20 year journey.
